My husband Rene, who I owe so much to for the woman I became and the artist I am,” Dion said Johnston called Angelil one of Canada’s “great producers and artists.” “It is with much emotion that I accept this medal. My parents would be so proud of their son today,” Angelil said. He ended his speech by calling Dion an “an exceptional artist, wife and mother.” “The fans make me feel like we know each other very well. These are the people that gave us hope so it’s always a wonderful trip as well as an emotional one,” she said. “I share this with my mother, who is here, and also with my children who are still too young to measure the scope," said Dion. "I would also like to thank my husband, René, who I owe so much to for the woman I became and the artist I am.” "I thank our children, a source of inspiration and pride," said Angélil, also saying that Dion was "an exceptional artist, wife, and mother." "I have to admit that I've had an amazing career that I'm proud of. Every time I come back home, it's something very unique and very special," said Dion. “I want to thank the life given to me — (by) the exceptional artist who was my engine, and the mother and wife who was even more exceptional who gave me wings,” Angelil said. “Thank you, Celine. I adore you.” “Celine Dion is not only an extraordinary ambassador for Canada, she also represents the values we hold dear,” said the citation read aloud before she accepted the prize. “Her unique voice, infectious energy and great sensitivity contribute to her remarkable stage presence, which has won her fans from around the world. Moreover, her talent has garnered her countless national and international awards and honours. “An incomparable artist, she is equally known for her compassion, generosity and commitment to a number of social and humanitarian causes. She is notably the national celebrity patron for Cystic Fibrosis Canada and honorary patron of the CHU Sainte-Justine.
